There are only less than 2 months remaining for the ODI World Cup as the much-awaited grand event is set to be kicked off on October 5. At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the 2019 World Cup champions England and New Zealand will face off in the opening match of the tournament.
Talking about the Kiwis, they have never won an ODI World Cup and this time they’d like to give their all for the grand event. It’d be interesting to see which players will make it to their squad for the mega event. However, today, we will take a look at the 3 forgotten New Zealand players who featured in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
1. Martin Guptill
New Zealand’s veteran white ball cricketer Martin Guptill has been consistently playing for the Blackcaps since 2009, especially in limited-overs cricket. He was present in the 2019 World Cup squad for New Zealand, however, now it seems that he will not be able to get a place in the upcoming World Cup. He was last seen in an ODI match in September 2022 against Australia.
2. Colin Munro
One of the most destructive cricketers of limited overs cricket, New Zealand’s star left-hander Colin Munro hasn’t played many ODI matches in his career. However, he was part of the New Zealand squad in the 2019 World Cup but he shifted his focus towards franchise cricket more and accepted that his international career is probably over for him. He was last seen in an ODI match in 2020 and is unlikely to play in the upcoming World Cup as well.
3. Colin de Grandhomme
New Zealand’s star allrounder Colin de Grandhomme has multiple major tournament finals for the Blackcaps and even performed well in those matches. De Grandhomme also played the 2019 World Cup for New Zealand but since then he has been forgotten by the fans. He last played an ODI match in April 2022 against the Netherlands and is still eyeing for a comeback.
