The ODI World Cup is certainly one of the biggest stages for the players to perform and make their mark in the international circuit. Bangladesh is a team who have had a fair run in the World Cups as the side has continuously been improving their performance in every World Cup. The Bangladesh side has pulled up some great victories over the years against some of the major teams in the tournaments.
The team has pulled off great victories in the history of the tournament which includes notable victories against India in the 2007 World Cup as well as against England in the 2015 edition of the World Cup. Let us now look at three forgotten Bangladesh players who featured in the 2019 ODI World Cup;
1. Sabbir Rahman
Sabbir Rahman came into the spotlight when the right-hand batter scored an 18-ball 33 not out in the gold-medal encounter of the 2010 edition of the Asian Games against the spirited Afghanistan side. The 2019 edition of the World Cup was certainly not something that Rahman would have expected.
The right-hand batter was certainly rated very high in the domestic area but somehow failed to carry that reputation in the international arena. The 31-year-old did show glimpses of his form but somewhere down the line failed to replicate that form in international cricket. In the 2019 World Cup scored just 36 runs in two matches that he played for Bangladesh.
2. Soumya Sarkar
Soumya Sarkar is certainly one of the rarest breed players that the Bangladesh team has produced as is a top-order batter as well as at the same time very handful with the ball as well. Sarkar is a bowler who can chip in with some quality overs at the death as well as in the middle overs.
In the 2019 edition of the World Cup, the left-hand batter did not have the ideal of the tournament as the southpaw was only able to score just 166 runs with the bat in hand and also accounted for four wickets in the tournament. It was because of this poor showcase with the bat as well as bowl the 30-year-old was dropped from the team after the New Zealand series in the ODI format in the year 2021.
3. Mohammad Mithun
Mohammad Mithun was a most talked about cricket prodigy even beforehand he had passed out of the country’s largest sports institute, BKSP. Mithun started his career as a wicketkeeper in the young age-group cricket, and along with that he even continued in the role, although his batting has always been his strongest position.
The right-hand batter had a pretty bad outing in the 2019 edition of the World Cup where he just scored 47 runs in the three matches that he played. In fact, this tournament was something that pretty much ended his career in white ball cricket.
