Chennai Super Kings began their IPL 2025 season with a win over Mumbai Indians. Since then things have gone downhill for the five-time IPL winners as they have lost three games in a row to be pushed to ninth in the table. Chennai will face Punjab Kings in their game at the Mullanpur Stadium in Chandigarh.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and his side know that they cannot afford to lose one more game as it will mount huge pressure going into the half-way point of the season. Playing against Punjab won’t be easy as PBKS have been at the top of their game. Despite losing the last match, Punjab have played some outstanding cricket at the start of the season.
Here are the three changes CSK should make for their next game vs PBKS
3. Shivam Dube for Vijay Shankar

Chennai Super Kings should start Shivam Dube instead of making him play as an impact sub. Dube hasn’t been at the top of his game with the bat so far this season but will need just one knock to turn things around. Vijay Shankar scored an unbeaten fifty in the last game but his strike rate issues and his inability to find the boundaries at crucial times can hurt CSK going forward. Shivam Dube is a good player of spin and can hit boundaries at will and put pressure on the opposition bowlers.
2. Shreyas Gopal for Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin’s return to CSK hasn’t been a happy homecoming. The veteran spinner hasn’t been at his best in the first four games of the season. Ashwin bowled just three overs versus Delhi and gave away 21 runs without picking a single wicket. Shreyas Gopal is waiting in the wings and could do well if given a chance at the Mullanpur Stadium on Tuesday. Gopal has a fair amount of IPL experience and has also picked a hat-trick and is one of the most underrated bowlers in the league.
3. Anshul Kamboj for Mukesh Chaudhary

Left-arm seamer Mukesh Chaudhary was taken to the cleaners by Abhishek Porel in his first over as he gave away 20 runs. The left-arm seamer ended his spell with 50 runs from his four overs and didn’t pick a single wicket. Haryana seamer Anshul Kamboj needs to get a look-in as the 24-year-old has been in decent form during the domestic season. Kamboj can do the job that Deepak Chahar did for years and get wickets with the new ball and play a huge role in the powerplay overs.
