3 bowlers to watch out for in England vs Sri Lanka 3rd Test

England cricket Team will play their final Test match of their home season. The Three Lions stand on the cusp of their second successive series whitewash. Ollie Pope who is leading the side in the absence of Ben Stokes will want to keep the foot on the pedal and win the series with a 3-0 margin.

Sri Lanka on the other hand hasn’t played good cricket apart from a few decent performances. Dhananjaya De Silva will hope that his team can rise to the occasion and deny the hosts the chance to win the game and complete a whitewash.

England have already announced that Josh Hull is set to make his Test debut. The tall pace bowler is only 20 years old and is known to be an exciting prospect. Matthew Potts has been dropped for the game despite putting in some decent numbers since his return to the team.

Here are the top 3 bowlers to watch out for during the 3rd England vs Sri Lanka Oval Test

3. Shoaib Bashir

Shoaib Bashir

The English off-spinner has been turning heads with his bowling since his debut against India earlier this year. The 20-year-old has already picked 31 wickets from 8 games with a best of 5/41 which is one of his 3 fifers. Shoaib Bashir will love to bowl on the Oval surface which will offer enough turn and bounce. By the 4th and 5th day, the pitch will start to get slower and lower. If the game does go into the final two days, one expects Shoaib Bashir to cause some excitement with the ball.

2. Asitha Fernando

Asitha Fernando

The 27-year-old entered the Lord’s honors board with a spell of 5 for 109 from his 24 overs. Asitha Fernando was compared with Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif for his ability to swing the ball both ways. The Oval will offer a lot of seam and bounce on the first two days. The pitch will aid the swing and skiddy pacer that Fernando has with the ball. With 14 wickets from 2 games, Fernando has been the best bowler for Sri Lanka during the England tour.

1. Gus Atkinson

Gus Atkinson

The 26-year-old has taken to Test cricket like a duck to a water can. Gus Atkinson has already picked 33 wickets from 5 games with a best of 7/45 along with 3 fifers and one ten-wicket haul. Gus Atkinson also scored a century during the 2nd Test which was his first ever in the longest format of the game. It is with the ball that Atkinson has done well as he picked 11 wickets from the first two Tests. His spell of 5/62 in the 2nd innings of the Lord’s test was the key factor in England posting a huge win to take the series.
