Both teams entered the match with defeats to Afghanistan and the Netherlands, respectively. South Africa displayed resilience and dominated England, who had another disappointing batting display. South Africa posted a record-breaking total of 399/7 in their 50 overs. Heinrich Klaasen played an explosive knock of 109, while Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen notched up half-centuries. Marco Jansen concluded the innings with a powerful 75*.

In response, England struggled early, and their run-chase was never on track. At one point, they were 100/8, but Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson managed to add 70 runs. Ultimately, England was bowled out for 170, suffering a substantial defeat.

In the 6th match of the ODI World Cup 2019, Pakistan achieved the distinction of posting the highest team total in a World Cup match without an individual century. Opting to bat first against England at Trent Bridge, Pakistan amassed a substantial 348 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs, with the key contribution coming from the star batsman, Mohammad Hafeez, who scored 84 runs from 62 deliveries. In addition to Hafeez, Babar Azam (64) and Sarfaraz Ahmed (55) both notched up half-centuries, playing crucial roles in propelling the team to a formidable total.

In reply to the target, England fell short by just 14 runs as they scored 334 runs in their allocated 50 overs. Joe Root (107) as well as Jos Buttler (103) were the stars with bat with brilliant centuries.

3. 342/9 by Australia in Melbourne in 2015

In the second match of the ODI World Cup 2015, the Australian team registered the third-highest score against the England team in major tournaments. The skipper Aaron Finch led the attack for the Aussies with a brilliant 135 runs off just 128 deliveries. It was courtesy of this innings that Australia managed to score 342 runs in their 50 overs. In addition to it, England had an under-par chase as they were restricted to just 231 runs which meant Australia won the match by a humongous 111 runs.
