3 biggest positives from Pakistan’s campaign in ODI World Cup 2023

This World Cup campaign has been disappointing for Pakistan. The former world champions could not impress with their performance and had to bow out without qualifying for the knockouts. Pakistan came into this tournament with a lot of expectations as they were the No.1 ranked side in ODIs for a long period in recent times. Still, it turned out to be another disappointing tournament for them as they failed to make their place in the semis for the third time in a row. But among all the gloom let’s try and find out some positives.

Let’s take a look at 3 positives for Pakistan in this ODI World Cup 2023:

No More Mirage

Pakistan

For a long time, Pakistan was living in a bubble that was created by their success against lesser sides. That illusionary success had created a sense of false superiority which has backfired on the biggest stage. The lack of depth in Pakistan cricket has been exposed in the last couple of months. First, they fell short in the Asia Cup and then a disaster in the World Cup, this would lead Pakistan out of the bubble that they have surrounded themselves with.

An Overhaul: On the cards

Babar Azam

This is one of the biggest positives for Pakistan from this World Cup – An Overhaul. The role of Micky Arthur who is the director of the Pakistan cricket team has come into question. There is a lot of hue and cry in Pakistan about the role of management in this World Cup. It would be interesting to observe what will happen to the coaching staff. Even the captaincy is under the scanner as Babar Azam has failed to utilize his resources to the fullest. We can expect a massive overhaul in Pakistan cricket because of this shambolic World Cup campaign.

Mohammad Wasim

Mohammad Wasim

There are barely any positives in terms of individual performances but Mohammad Wasim is one of the few bright spots in this campaign for Pakistan. He was not in the team in initial matches but when he was given an opportunity to show his skills, he did that perfectly. Particularly with the old ball he was top notch and going forward he might be one of the permanent members of the pace trio.
