England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their ODI squad for the upcoming tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The English squad comprises a blend of youth and experience. Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler will lead the side on both occasions. Meanwhile, some of the big names will also be missing from the England squad both the India tour and the Champions Trophy.
With that said, here we’ll have a look at the three big names who will not be a part of the squad of the Three Lions. They might miss the importance and feel the cruciality of these players in the crunch situations during both of these important occasions.
Sam Curran
Last time, the star all-rounder Sam Curran was in action for England in the ODIs just a month ago in November. He played in the third and last match of the three-match series against the West Indies in the Bridgetown ODI, in which he scored 40 runs with the bat and failed to scalp any wicket with the ball.
Sam Curran has not been included in England’s ODI squad for India tour and the Champions Trophy next year. The 26-year-old has scored 597 runs in 27 innings of the 35 ODIs he has played. He has an average of 24.87 in the ODIs. Besides that, he has also scalped 33 wickets in 35 innings, including a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul.
Will Jacks
The Surrey-born batting all-rounder has been in the headlines since his amazing outings in the Indian Premier League earlier this year. Besides that, he has also featured in 15 ODIs for England, scoring 468 runs in 15 innings with an average of 31.20, hitting four half-centuries.
Will Jacks has also bagged 5 wickets in 10 innings, with a decent economy rate of 5.76. The Englishmen will also miss the services of the power-hitter in the ODI series against India followed by the prestigious cricket quadrennial in Pakistan.
Ben Stokes
The veteran all-rounder and Test skipper, Ben Stokes took his retirement back last year to play for England in the ODI World Cup 2023. However, he couldn’t live up to his stature in the ICC tournament and the 2019 World Cup champions were eliminated from the league stage of the tournament.
Stokes has brilliant numbers to his name in the ODI cricket, scoring 3463 runs in 99 innings, with a brilliant average of 41.22. He has scored 5 centuries and 24 half-centuries with the bat, alongside scalping 74 wickets in 88 innings, with a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul.
