3 Batters who can replace David Warner in Tests for Australia

David Warner has publicly stated his desire to retire from Test Cricket. As such, it would be a tough job for Cricket Australia to find a worthy replacement to fill his boots. Warner has been a pillar of the Australian Test Team albeit their explosive opener. Here are three likely batters who could replace Warner in the Australian Test Team.

1. Marcus Harris

Marcus Harris is without a doubt the second cab to leave the station. The Victorian, who most recently represented Australia during the victorious Ashes campaign last summer, is coming off a solid year in the longest format. Harris scored 726 runs at 42.70 per in nine first-class games for Gloucestershire during the winter, including three hundreds. The opener continued to perform well after going back home in September, amassing 288 runs at 41.14 in four Sheffield Shield games, the best of which was a century against Western Australia in October. Cricket Australia should consider him for sure.

2. Cam Bancroft

One of the several batsmen Australia experimented with at the top of the order alongside David Warner during the past 10 years was Bancroft, another forgotten Test opener. On Bancroft’s Test debut, the pair set up an unbroken 173-run opening stand, making it appear like a match made in heaven. However, the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town sidelined both of their careers. The West Australian, however, was replaced by Marcus Harris ahead of the Headingley match after being hurried back into the Test team ahead of the 2019 Ashes series after a successful stay in the County Championship. After a strong start to this summer’s Sheffield Shield—more than three years later—Bancroft is once again a candidate for a Test recall after scoring 483 runs in six matches to take second place in the competition.

3. Henry Hunt

Hunt has been making waves in the Sheffield Shield for the past 24 months, although he may not be a household name. With 601 runs in eight games, the South Australian finished fourth in the Sheffield Shield last summer and became the only player to record three centuries. Hunt possesses all the qualities of a traditional opening batter, including endurance, patience, discipline, and technique. With a game-saving performance against Victoria in October, the 25-year-old advanced his Test credentials by weathering 326 deliveries at the crease in the fourth innings to rescue a draw from certain defeat.
