3 Bangladesh players to watch out for in their clash against Afghanistan in T20 World Cup 2024

Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in the final Super 8 match of the 2024 T20 World Cup. After the recent 50-run loss against India, the Bengal Tigers are almost out of the tournament. They will need multiple favours to qualify for the semi-finals. Afghanistan defeating Australia did some favours to Bangladesh, but a lot more things have to go their way.

If India defeats Australia, and Bangladesh defeat Afghanistan in their final Super 8 matches, three teams will end up on three points. In this scenario, a team that has a higher net run rate (NRR) will qualify. Notably, Bangladesh’s current NRR (-2.489) does not give a promising sign.

3. Rishad Hossain

Rishad Hossain has been one of the best performers for Bangladesh so far in the tournament. The right-arm leg-spinner has taken 11 wickets in six matches at an average of 15.27. Although he conceded an economy of 14.30 in the previous match, he took two wickets. Hossain will be a key player against Afghanistan as the pitch at Kingstown assists the spinners more.

2. Tanzim Hasan Sakib

Tanzim Hasan is the joint-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in the ongoing tournament. The right-arm pacer grabbed 11 wickets at an average of 10.27. In the previous match against India, he took two big wickets of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. He is expected to shine in the bowling-friendly conditions at Kingstown.

Towhid Hridoy is the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh, scoring 139 runs in six matches at an average of 23.17 and a strike rate of 126.36. The 23-year-old is the most reliable batter for Bangladesh in the middle order. He played a brilliant 28-ball 40 against Australia in their first Super 8 clash. It will be interesting to see how Hridoy will fare against Afghanistan’s bowling unit.
