3 areas of improvement for RCB ahead of IPL 2024 auction

Royal Challengers Bangalore have been consistent in the last few seasons but they have not been successful in achieving the one elusive thing and that is the IPL title. However, last season they could not qualify for the playoffs and finished in the 6th position. Now with 10 teams in the IPL, the league has become even more competitive and RCB must focus on some areas to stake a claim to the title. In this article, we will take a look at 3 areas of improvement for RCB ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

3 areas of improvement for RCB ahead of the IPL 2024 auction:

Reducing the burden from Virat and Faf Du Plessis

Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis

In the past RCB was known for its star-studded batting lineup which consisted of the likes of Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, and Chris Gayle but the same thing became a bane for them. There was over-reliance on this trio and the same has happened in the last couple of seasons. The team has relied a lot on Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis. Glenn Maxwell is also someone on whom the team has relied to an extent but there is no clear matchwinner with bat for RCB apart from these three players and this is the area of concern that they should address in the auction.

Lack of A Tearaway Fast Bowler

Mohammad Siraj

Mohammad Siraj is the leader of the bowling attack, especially the fast-bowling department, but there is no other bowler of the same calibre to compliment him and assist him in making the bowling attack more lethal. In this upcoming auction, the management must try to bring an experienced and lethal bowler who can make this attack more potent. Harshal Patel was their second-best fast bowling option but he generally relied on variations. Now he has also been released which really warrants RCB to go for another quality fast-bowling option.

No Quality Spinner

Yuzvendra Chahal

Chinnaswamy Stadium is considered to be a hell for the bowlers but one particular bowler who excelled in these conditions was Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner was a genuine wicket-taker for RCB who would rescue the side in adverse situations but after his departure, there has been a lack of a quality spinner who could take his place. The management had a lot of expectations from Wanindu Hasaranga but his injury concerns have prevented him from leaving any impact which has resulted in RCB not retaining him before the upcoming auction. Now they must address this issue and bring in a quality spinner who can be a genuine wicket-taker for them.
