In international cricket, the Australian cricket team is now touring the West Indies for the T20I and ODI bilateral series. In which, the visitors have lost 4-1 in the first five-match T20I series. The three-match ODI series between the two teams will be held at Kensington Oval (Barbados) in Bridgetown. The first match will be played on July 21 and the next two matches on July 23 and 25 respectively.
West Indies and Australia have met in a total of 140 ODIs since 1975. Australia has won 74 and the West Indies have won 60 matches. Besides, 3 matches have been drawn and 3 matches have been abandoned. The two teams last met in the 9th match of the group stage of the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and Wales. Australia won that match by 15 runs against the Caribbeans.
Australia played their last three-match ODI series against visiting India, and won the series 2-1. While West Indies whitewashed visiting Sri Lanka in their last three-match ODI series.
The Carribbeans have won just two of the last five ODI series. Australia, on the other hand, has won three of the last five ODI series. Aussie has won the last two series in a row.
However, the Caribbeans have put together a great team this time around and most of them are in good form. On the other hand, Australia is coming on the field with a bunch of new players on this tour. So they will lag behind the Caribbeans at least a little bit.
So, statistically, the success of the ODI series win has made the players of the Australian team confident. And after a helpless surrender in the T20I series, they will definitely try their best to make the ODI series memorable.
Australia is ranked 3rd and West Indies is ranked 8th in the ICC ODI rankings. Australia is currently third in the points table of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, where West Indies is at 9th place. So, West Indies have to work hard in this series to build a solid position in the points table.
