The cricket mega-event T20 World Cup 2022 will knock at the door a few days later. To that end, the teams have already started organising the teams gradually. Bangladesh Cricket Board is no exception. The BCB wants to start preparations for the World Cup with its upcoming tour of the Caribbean.

The board is also considering playing a tri-nation series on New Zealand soil. The BCB selectors will announce a preliminary team for that purpose and the team to play until the T20 World Cup.

The dashing opener of the Bangladesh cricket team Tamim Iqbal Khan has not played any international match in the T20 format since 2020. Before the last World Cup, Tamim came live hurriedly and said that he was taking a break from the World Cup to give a chance to the youth.

The opener was adamant in his decision despite widespread criticism. Tamim said goodbye to T20 cricket for six months but performed brilliantly in the highest version of domestic cricket, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Tamim’s rest period is coming to an end next July. So, even though the initial team is preparing for the World Cup, Tamim is not getting a chance to be in that team. In such a situation, what is the place of the ODI captain of the national team in the squad for the World Cup to be held in October?

Jalal Yunus, chairman of the Cricket Operations Board of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the country’s top governing body, said it would be challenging to get Tamim in the squad.

Speaking to reporters, Jalal Yunus said, “Tamim Iqbal is one of the senior cricketers, and he understands his position well. We have had a lot of discussions with him about this (breaking the break). He told you his plan, and then we have something to say? You will hear from him whether he will stay after six months or not. I can’t say that. But it (playing in the World Cup) seems difficult.

There has been a buzz in Bangladesh cricket since the statement of that BCB official, but will Bangladesh play the T20 World Cup without Tamim? The answer may take time.
