WI vs BAN (2nd Test – Day 2)

At the end of the second day of the second Test, the host West Indies scored 340 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 106 overs courtesy of a remarkable century by Kyle Mayers. At the same time, they have set a lead of 106 runs in front of the visiting Bangladesh. Mayers is unbeaten on 126 and Joshua Da Silva will come down to bat on the third day with 26 runs.

The Tigers’ bowlers showed some great magic at the end of the morning session. The opening pair of 100 runs was broken, then Bangladesh took 3 wickets within 1 run and returned to the fight.

But in the first session, Mayers and Jermaine Blackwood collectively brought the hosts back into the match. The Caribbean duo made a partnership of 116 runs in 34.4 overs. After forming a big partnership, Blackwood fell victim to LBW in the ball of Mehidy Hasan. He returned with 40 runs off 121 balls.

However, West Indies took the lead based on the Mayers and Blackwood pair. After that, Mayers and Joshua Da Silva made an unbroken partnership of 92 runs. Earlier, West Indies started the day with 67 runs without losing any wickets and lost 4 wickets to score 132 runs in the first session. Shoriful Islam brought the first breakthrough for the Tiger camp.

The second breakthrough for the visiting team came in no time as well. The Tigers scalped the second wicket of the Caribbeans for 131 runs. This time Mehidy Hasan took the wicket.

Fast bowler Khaled Ahmed took the third wicket of the hosts whilst the Windies’ score was 131 as well. Then Khaled took another 1 wicket after the batters could add only 1 run. The Caribbeans lost 3 wickets for 1 run.

Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell, two Caribbean openers, started batting for the Caribbeans on the second day. The duo put together a pair of 100 runs.

After that, the young Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam hit the first blow on the batting of the hosts. His last ball in the 26th over was a short pitch delivery. There was an extra bounce on it.

Campbell tried to pull the ball. But the speed and extra bounce could not allow him to play a proper shot. The ball hit his gloves and went to Nurul Hasan’s gloves behind the wicket. The Caribbean opener was dismissed for 45 off 79 balls.

Then Brathwaite wanted to defend Mehidy Hasan’s arm ball on the front foot. But he could not read the ball properly. The ball took a slight turn and hit straight to the stumps.

However, the Caribbean skipper scored a half-century before being dismissed. Brathwaite returned to the dressing room after being bowled by Mehidy for 51 off 107 balls.

Then Khaled Ahmed made a pair of surprises in one over. The second ball of the 39th over was a short-length delivery on stumps. Raymon Reifer wanted to steer. But the ball hit the inner edge and hit straight to the stumps. Reifer was out for 22 runs.

Nkrumah Bonner was also bowled at the end of the same over. He could not get any run for his team. Bonner could not stop Khaled’s speedy ball with his feet as well. As a result, the hosts lost the fourth wicket to make 132 runs and the team got into some danger. But batting smoothly and without taking any extra risks, Mayers is overcoming that danger and he has already taken his team to the driving seat.
