Mushfiqur Rahim has been out of form in T20 for a long time. Criticism has been around him at various times. After the failure in the Asia Cup, that criticism became stronger. Meanwhile, this Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman announced his retirement from international T20. He confirmed this on his verified Facebook page.
Mushfiq wrote in his status, “ Assalaamualaikum to all, hope you are doing well.
I have been grateful to have you all beside me throughout my long career. Your support has been my inspiration during my highs and lows.
Today, I am announcing my retirement from T20 Internationals. I will proudly continue to represent Bangladesh in Test and ODI formats. I am hopeful that I can bring success for our nation in these two formats.
I will continue to take part in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and other franchise tournaments. Alhamdulillah. Thank you all. Allah Hafez. “
After the announcement of Mushfiqur’s retirement, there is a mixed reaction in cricket in the country. Many have given emotional status and many have congratulated. The two cricketers of Team Bangladesh, Tamim-Riyad, were not left out.
Tamim Iqbal, who retired from T20 a few days ago, congratulated Mushi on social media. He wrote on his Facebook status, “Congratulations Mushfiqur! 15 years 277 days T20 career is no fluke. I have seen you closely over the years. Statistics don’t always show everything. But I have seen your dedication, passion, hard work and love. I’ve seen your effort and sweat. Congratulations once again for everything you’ve achieved in T20I. You still have a big role to play in Tests and ODIs, so much more to give to the team. I’m sure you can do it mate.”
Mahmudullah Riyad gave an emotional status about Mushfiq’s retirement. He wrote on his Facebook, “ Dear Mushfiq, for me it’s heartbreaking when I heard your announcement. But well done on your T20I achievements & career. It was a pleasure to play T20I’s with you. Your work ethics will always be inspirational in any format.”
It should be noted that Mushfiqur achieved the first ‘double century’ in the history of Bangladesh Test cricket. Mushfiqur has already sent a letter of retirement to the cricket board. However, the cricket board has not accepted his letter so far.
