The construction of a bridge across the Padma is an unforgettable achievement in the history of Bangladesh. That achievement is only for Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government has built this 6-kilometer long bridge on the banks of the fast flowing Padma with its own funds. ODI captain Tamim Iqbal and former captain Mashrafe bin Mortuza spoke about this glorious bridge.
Bangladesh cricket team’s one-day captain Tamim posted a video on his official Facebook page about the Padma Bridge. In the video, Tamim says, “Padma Bridge means if we Bangladeshi people want to do something together, we can do everything.”
The video also highlights the history and present of Bangladesh. The video says, “We were told there would be no Bengali language, 300 million people speak Bengali today. 1966, they tried not to obey the six points. We lit the fire of the movement. Our Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was imprisoned in 1969; they wanted not to release him. But we forced to make release free. ”
The video further states, “We won the election in 1970. They said they would not give us power. On March 7, 1971, raising finger we said, ‘You can’t keep it down.’ They said they would not give freedom. We fought. We drove away, Bangladesh was born. The Father of the Nation was brutally murdered in 1975. But today he is alive in the minds of millions of Bengalis. ”
”It was said that Bangladesh is a ‘Bottomless Basket’. But today our per capita income is ahead of many countries. They said, there will be no digital Bangladesh. Today the whole world says we are the people of digital Bangladesh. I have been hearing for 15 years that there will be no Padma Bridge, everyone turned away. But Bangladesh did. If we unite, we can do everything.” Posting this video, Tamim wrote in the caption, ‘Another name for infinite courage is Padma Bridge.’
Mashrafe thinks that the construction of this Padma bridge will make the life of the people of the southern part of the country much easier. At the same time, referring to all the sufferings of the people, he thanked the Prime Minister for resolving them. The former Tiger captain described the bridge over the Padma as a dream for the people of the country.
Mashrafe wrote on his official Facebook page, “It is very difficult to understand the importance of the Padma Bridge for the people of the south without the experience of navigating that road. Not to mention the two Eids, then the people of the whole country can see in the news how hard it is for people to cross the river. But only those who have this experience understand what happens in winter. Moreover if there is cyclone or natural disaster at different times, the ferry is closed all night.
Mashrafe wrote in his status: “When the car serial starts at different times of the year, in many cases you have to sit on the dock from afternoon to the next morning. Hundreds of freight trucks are waiting, the raw materials are rotting at the wharf, these are fairly regular scenario. Then if the ghat breaks in the current of the river, then the pain increases even more. “
The former captain of the Tigers also wrote, “The most painful thing is when a dying patient waits to cross the river. Every minute seems like eternity. How helpless the family is then, is unimaginable for one who did not have this experience. The patient died at the ghat, he could not be brought to Dhaka for treatment, there are many such instances. How many have the ability to bring patients by plane or helicopter.
Only regular passengers on this route understand how many more problems they have to face. Those painful days are coming to an end. Overcoming many obstacles, overcoming many adversities, the Padma Bridge is now awaiting inauguration. For billions of people, it’s something bigger than a dream. Many have never imagined they would see a bridge over the Padma in their lifetime. It is not just a brick-and-cement bridge, it is synonymous with a lot of emotions for the people of this region. “
Mashrafe further wrote, “These age-old problems will be solved now, industrial factories will be set up in the region, it will play a role in eliminating unemployment, the whole southern region will change its condition. Thank you, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Thank you for the Padma Bridge. I don’t need a political identity. Going beyond all politics, you deserve at least a thank you from everyone.”
