WBBL 2020: Melbourne Renegades’s Molly Strano becomes first bowler to claim 100 wickets in the tournament

 

In the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Australian cricketer Molly Strano created history on Sunday. The Melbourne Renegades off-spinner became the first bowler to claim 100 wickets in Australia’s T20 tournament.

During the face-off against the Melbourne Stars at the Sydney Showground stadium on 15th November, Molly Strano accomplished this feat. In her four-over spell, the 28-year-old gained the figures of 2-38. 

By making an appreciation post on Twitter, the International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledged Molly Strano’s achievement. The post as below:

Mignon du Preez and Meg Lanning played knocks of 40 runs each in the Melbourne Renegades against Melbourne Stars match on Sunday and led their team to a total of 165/8 in twenty overs. In the end, Natalie Sciver (24) and Alana King (27) added a few quick runs, crossing the 150 runs mark. 

While Molly Strano is the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, Jess Jonassen, with 85 wickets, is second on the list, followed by Sarah Aley (84-wicket) and Marizanne Kapp (83-wicket). Earlier, on Saturday, Sophie Devine, the New Zealand all-rounder, became the first player to reach 100 sixes in the tournament.


Sophie Devine played an unbeaten knock of 77-run with 9 wickets and 31 balls to spare to take Perth Scorchers over the line.  Sophie Devine smashed 3 sixes during her innings and as a result, she went past the mark of 100 sixes in WBBL tournament.
