Virat Kohli to stay away from leading the Men in blues in T20 cricket

Virat Kohli has announced to step down as the captain of the Indian team in the T20 format after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He confirmed the matter in a statement on social media. However, he will remain the captain of the Test and ODI teams. But the announcement of the next leader of the T20 team has not come yet.

In a huge message on social media, Kohli cited work pressure as the reason for his decision because he has been playing in three formats for the last 8-9 years and has been captaining for 5-6 years. Where he had to deal with a lot of stress. Moreover, he feels he needs to find a little space to keep himself ready to continue leading the Test and ODI team.

He mentioned that it was a great privilege for him to represent the Indian team and lead the team to the best of his ability. He also thanked all those who helped him in his journey as the captain of the Indian team.

He added that it took him a long time to make that decision. After much thought and discussion with the team’s head coach Ravi Shastri and another senior player Rohit Sharma, he decided to step down after the 2021 T20 World Cup that will be staged in October. He has also informed Board Secretary Jay Shah, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, and the selectors of his decision.

The scale of Kohli’s success as India’s T20 captain is quite heavy. He is also ahead of the legendary captain MS Dhoni in terms of statistics.

Kohli has led India in 45 T20I matches and won 29 of them. India has lost 14 games under his captaincy and two matches ended with no result. The success rate under him is 65.11%. He has the second-best success rate of any captain in the world in the format (leading in at least 40 matches).
