UAE vs NED (Match 02) – Highlights
The United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands faced each other in the 2nd match of the T20 World Cup on Monday. Batting first in a low-scoring match, UAE set up some kind of target. But the Netherlands had to play almost to the end to chase that goal. They won the match with only 1 ball to spare. As a result, the United Arab Emirates had to leave the field with a loss. At the same time, Bas de Leede won the man of the match title by bowling brilliantly for the Netherlands.
The Arab Emirates could not increase the score by holding the wicket in the beginning. UAE set a target of 112 runs to the Netherlands after winning the toss and batting first in the second match of the opening day of the World Cup.
UAE captain CP Rizwan won the toss and he elected to bat first at Kardinia Park. Sri Lanka had to lose the first match after winning the toss and deciding to field. Maybe that’s why UAE decided to bat first.
Opener Muhammad Waseem scored 41 runs off 47 balls. His innings were decorated with 1 boundary and 2 sixes. Both the openers started at a very slow pace. The other opener Chirag Suri hit 1 four with 12 runs off 20 balls. Kashif Daud scored 15 runs off 14 balls with the help of 1 six. Vriitya Aravind scored 18 runs off 21 balls. Then, none of the rest of the batters could touch double figures.
Zawar Farid scored 2 runs from 4 balls, Basil Hameed scored 4 runs from 4 balls. Skipper Rizwan scored 1 run from 2 balls. Afzal Khan scored 5 runs off 7 balls. In the end, UAE managed to score 111 runs after losing 8 wickets with 13 runs extra.
Bas De Leede took the maximum of 3 wickets for the Netherlands. He gave only 19 runs in 3 overs. Fred Klaassen took 2 wickets. Tim Pringle and Roelof van der Merwe took 1 wicket each.
Only 111 runs on the board. It was tough for UAE to fight in this match. But even in such a match, they created a good chance of winning, picking up 6 wickets of Netherlands for 76 runs.
Vikramjit Singh scored 10 runs in 7 balls with the help of 2 fours. Max Odowd scored 23 runs off 18 balls. He also hit 3 fours and 1 six. Bas de Leede scored 14 runs off 18 balls with the help of 1 four. Colin Ackermann scored 17 runs off 19 balls with 1 four. Tom Cooper scored only 8 runs off 16 balls. Roelof van der Merwe hits a golden duck off 2 balls.
But even in such bad innings, the fight was accumulated till the last over. The Dutch took out the match by holding their nerve. They won with 1 ball in hand and won by 3 wickets.
The Netherlands needed 10 runs with 4 wickets in hand in the last two overs. The equation was simple. But in the 19th over, the Dutch could score only 4 runs after losing their 7th wicket. As a result, it takes 6 in the last over.
Zawar Farid gave three singles in the first three balls. Still, the Dutch did not afraid. Scott Edwards scored two runs in the fourth ball and one run in the fifth ball to ensure the team’s victory. Edwards remained unbeaten on 17 runs from 19 balls. Besides, Tim Pringle scored 15 runs off 16 balls and Logan Van Beek remained unbeaten on four runs.
Junaid Siddique was the most successful of the UAE bowlers. He took 3 wickets for 24 runs.
