The Australian cricket team is suffering one injury after another during the tour of Sri Lanka. Pace bowling all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of the ODI series due to a recent shoulder injury. The Australian team management has called up two players from the ‘A’ team as replacements.
The two cricketers are left-arm batsman Travis Head and left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, who has yet to make his international debut. Of course, there is a reason to lose one and take two players. Ashton Agar suffers from the same problem as Stoinis. There is also uncertainty about him.
That’s why Head and Kuhnemann have been included in the squad to replace Stoinis and Agar. Both of them played in the ongoing four-day match against Sri Lanka ‘A’ team. They were called up for the team at the end of the second day of that match. The two cricketers have already joined the team.
Head made 39 off 29 balls in the first innings of the four-day match in Hambantota. Kuhnemann took 2 wickets for 41 runs in 14 overs. They have been replaced by wicketkeeper-batsman Jimmy Peirson and leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha.
Australia, meanwhile, has already advanced by winning the first of a three-match ODI series. Glenn Maxwell’s stormy batting helped Australia win in the Duckworth-Lewis system by two wickets in a rain-affected match at Pallekele. Aussies will win the ODI series if they win one of the remaining two matches.
