Twitter Reactions: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tim David light up 1000th game of IPL between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals

While the Indian Premier League 2023’s match number 42 also happened to be the 1000th game in the history of the cash-rich league, Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show as Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians squared off at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The first innings of the match was completely dominated by the Rajasthan-based franchise, as they ended up posting a mammoth total of 212/7 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.

Rajasthan achieved such a massive score courtesy of the local boy Yashasvi’s 124 runs, who played at an astonishing strike rate of 200. Interestingly, Jos Buttler (18 runs off 19 balls) was the second-highest run scorer in the innings. For MI, Arshad Khan and Piyush Chawla took three and two wickets, respectively, whereas, Jofra Archer and Riley Meredith shared two wickets between them.

During their run chase, Mumbai did not get the best of the starts, as their skipper and birthday boy Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply by Sandeep Sharma. However, Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green did not take much time to settle and scored 58 runs in the powerplay. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin came into the attack and gave Mumbai a double blow to Mumbai by picking up Kishan (28 off 23) and Green (44 off 26) in the ninth and eleventh over, respectively.

Breakthroughs did not end the flow of runs for MI, as Suryakumar Yadav returned to form scoring 55 off just 29 balls before Sandeep Sharma grabbed a stunner to dismiss him off Trent Boult’s bowling in the sixteenth over. From there on, Tilak Varma and Tim David took the onus upon themselves, as the hosts still required 57 runs off the final four overs.

Sandeep, who had conceded just 20 runs in his three overs and also taken a wicket, came in to bowl the penultimate over as the scoreboard read 181/4. The Patiala-born went for 15 runs, as the game went right down to the wire. Skipper Sanju Samson gave the responsibility of bowling the final over to the experienced campaigner Jason Holder. Tim David, on the other hand, had no time to waste, as he hit three consecutive sixes to hand MI a much-needed victory with three balls to spare.

At the end, the Australian batter ended up scoring 45* runs off just 14 balls, while Tilak Varma supported him well and remained unbeaten on 29 off 21 balls. Meanwhile, Twitter went absolutely berserk as the fans reacted to a nail-biting finish by the home team.
