The West Indies continued their ongoing three-game T20I series against South Africa by taking on them in the second game of the series at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday, May 25.

The clash began with the West Indies coming in to bat first after winning the toss. The side got off to a subpar start as opener Johnson Charles scored seven runs in nine deliveries, with Brandon King scoring 36 runs in 22. However, the rest of the batters showed resilience and put in good performances with the bat.

Kyle Mayers scored 32 runs in 16 deliveries, with Roston Chase making the most impact, staying unbeaten on a score of 67 runs in 38 deliveries. Andre Fletcher scored 29 runs in 18 balls, with Romario Shepherd adding 26 runs in 13 deliveries.

The West Indies managed to post a total of 207 runs in the first innings of the clash; as for South Africa, Nqabayomzi Peter, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Lungi Ngidi were the highest wicket-takers, with two wickets each to their names. Bjorn Fortuin took one wicket as well.

West Indies’ brilliance helped them defend target

Aiming to chase down a target of 208 runs, South Africa got off to a good start as openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock scored 31 and 41 runs, respectively. They scored 81 runs within five overs. Ryan Rickelton and Matthew Breetzke scored 19 and 12 runs, respectively.

Furthermore, skipper Rassie van der Dussen added 30 runs on the board, guiding the middle order. Andile Phehlukwayo and Wiaan Mulder failed to make any impact as they scored three and nine runs, respectively.

As for the West Indies, Gudakesh Motie was the highest wicket-taker for his side with three wickets to his name; Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein, and Romario Shepherd took one wicket each as South Africa only managed to score 191 runs, ultimately losing the game to the West Indies by 16 runs.
