Bangladesh and South Africa kicked off the second Test of their ongoing two-match Test series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, in Chattogram, on Tuesday, October 29. The game began with the visitors coming in to bat first after winning the toss on a batting-friendly wicket. Notably, the South African side are 1-0 up in the series after winning the first test by seven wickets.

Proteas got off to a firBangladeshm start as opener Tony de Zorzi and skipper Aiden Markram put up a 69-run stand. The hosts got the first breakthrough in the form of Markram who added 33 runs to the tally. Throughout his stay, the right-hander managed to hit two boundaries. Meanwhile, Zorzi then partnered up with Tristan Stubbs to continue with the innings.

Both the batters took on Bangladeshi bowlers and hit them to all corners of the ground. By Tea, South Africa got past the 200-run mark, with Zorzi smashing a brilliant hundred and his partner Stubbs bringing up a well-deserved fifty.

Post Tea Stubbs started hitting some big shots and smashed a brilliant ton. Just as he reached the three-figure mark, Taijul Islam’s impressive delivery shattered his stumps to end his scintillating knock. Stubbs walked back after scoring 106 runs, lacing his innings with six boundaries and three towering sixes. David Bedingham walked in next but couldn’t manage to face enough deliveries as bad light interrupted play, forcing the officials to call it a day with the scorecard reading 307/2.

Currently, Zorzi remains unbeaten (141* off 211) and will continue his batting on Day 2 alongside Bedingham (18* off 25) for the fifth wicket. Zorzi in his long stay at the crease so far, has managed to send the ball over the line nine times with six fours and three sixes, respectively.

As for Bangladesh, Islam was the only one to pick wickets for the side as he ended with two wickets. As the second day approaches, the hosts will look to pick up early wickets and curb the run-flow of the visitors.
