Sri Lanka Women stunned the England team to notch up an emphatic eight-wicket win, levelling the T20I series 1-1. This victory marked Sri Lanka’s first-ever win over England in a women’s T20 international.

In the match played at County Ground, Chelmsford, England could only manage to score 104 runs before being bowled out in just 18 overs. Only Charlotte Dean showed some resilience against the disciplined bowling of Sri Lanka as she was the highest scorer with 34 off 26 balls. Sri Lankan bowlers displayed excellent discipline and teamwork, with all six bowlers used in the match taking at least one wicket.

Chasing the target, Sri Lanka comfortably reached the total with 40 balls to spare, securing the victory by eight wickets. Captain Chamari Athapaththu played a crucial role in the chase, scoring a superb 55 off just 31 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes. Harshitha Samarawickrama and Vishmi Gunaratne also played crucial knocks and were unbeaten on 30 and 18, respectively.

With the series now level at 1-1, the decider will take place at County Ground, Derby on Wednesday, September 6. Both teams will be eager to claim victory and clinch the series.

Unless Sri Lanka dig a subcontinent-sized hole for themselves in their pursuit of 105 runs, their splendid bowling performance should set up a maiden T20I win for them vs England.
