Day 3 of the second Test between the West Indies and South Africa saw the visitors wrap up the game and register a dominant win. Day 2 of the clash ended with South Africa scoring 223 runs in the second innings, losing five wickets in the process.
As day 3 came about, the Proteas ended their innings on a total of 246 runs as the Windies put in an excellent showing with the ball at the start of the day. Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder, who were unbeaten by the end of day 2, scored 59 and 34 runs, respectively.
However, after their dismissal, the rest of the lower order could not amount to much. Keshav Maharaj was dismissed for a duck, with Kagiso Rabada scoring just six runs. Dane Piedt stayed unbeaten by a score of seven runs as South Africa posted a total of 246 runs, giving the Windies a target of 263 runs.
As for the hosts, Jayden Seales was the highest wicket-taker in the second innings, with six wickets to his name. Gudakesh Motie and Jomel Warrican took two wickets each as well.
Brilliant bowling from South Africa helps them limit West Indies
As the West Indies came out to chase the target, the side opened their innings with Kraigg Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis, scoring 25 and four runs, respectively. Keacy Carty amassed 17 runs, with Alick Athanaze departing for just 15 runs.
Kavem Hodge attempted to stabilize the side’s failing innings with a knock of 29 runs. Furthermore, Joshua Da Silva scored 27 runs, with Gudakesh Motie adding 45 runs to the board as well.
However, the knocks were not enough to propel the West Indies to a score of 263 runs. The hosts were bundled out for 222 runs, and the Windies lost the game by 40 runs. As for the Proteas, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took three wickets each, with Wiaan Mulder and Dane Piedt taking two each.
