India and West Indies locked horns in the fourth T20I of the five-match series on Sunday, August 12 at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida. West Indies skipper Rovman Powell won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the decision wasn’t vindicated by the opener Kyle Mayers (17 off 7) as he got dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in the second over itself.
Bradon King (18 off 16) and Shai Hope made full use of the powerplay helping their side cross 50 inside the first six overs. Arshdeep returned in the sixth over to dismiss the other opener King while Kuldeep Yadav also continued his magic and picked two wickets in the seventh over to leave the hosts reeling at 57/4.
With wickets falling at the other end, Shai Hope took the onus of keeping the run flow going and took his team’s score past 100. He eventually fell five runs short of his fifty getting dismissed for 45 (29) against Yuzvendra Chahal. Following Hope’s dismissal, Shimron Hetmyer took the responsibility and played a breathtaking innings of 61 (39) to take West Indies to 178/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh (3/38) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/26) were the pick of the bowlers for India.
The Men in Blue had an uphill task at hand considering their recent batting performances in the series. However, openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal put their failures behind them and started afresh in the second innings. The duo came set from the pavilion itself as they started the innings in fourth gear right from the word go.
They added 66 runs in the powerplay as Jaiswal outscored Gill. The duo continued to pile on the misery for the West Indies and brought up their 100-run stand off just 60 balls. Both reached their respective fifties and took India to 165 with just 13 runs away from the win. However, Gill got dismissed for a well-made 77 (47) as he holed out to Shai Hope at deep mid wicket.
India level the series 2-2 with one game to play
The duo put on the joint-highest opening stand for India in T20Is levelling KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma’s record from 2017 against Sri Lanka. Following Gill’s dismissal, Jaiswal 84 (51) took India over the line in 17 overs as they won the game by nine wickets. Courtesy of their win, they levelled the series 2-2 with one game left.
Meanwhile, Twitter was abuzz with reactions on India’s emphatic victory.

Looks a different player Gill when he starts to “Time” the cricket ball instead of trying to hit it “too hard” . A area of his game where he could self analyse & get better every game . Too good a player #WIvsIND #T20I
