Twitter Reactions: Shreyas Iyer roped in by Punjab Kings for whopping total of INR 26.75 crore

For the time being, Shreyas Iyer has become the second-most expensive player when it comes to the history of the Indian Premier League after Rishabh Pant who became the highest-bid player in IPL history within minutes. An intense bidding war for the skipper of the defending champions concluded with the Punjab Kings making the last bid for Iyer, valuing him at INR 26.75 crore. Starting with Iyer’s base price of INR 2 crore, it was the Kolkata Knight Riders who made the first move.

PBKS and KKR were involved in a vigorous fight for Iyer up until the INR 7 crore mark was reached post which PBKS seemed to have eased out. However, they entered back into the race as they re-entered at the INR 10.25 crore mark. From thereon, it was a battle between PBKS and the Delhi Capitals. Both the franchises did not seem to give any indication of stopping, with Iyer’s valuation going past the previous range of the INR 24.75 crore mark set last year by Mitchell Starc, making him the second-most expensive player behind Rishabh Pant at the moment.

At the present moment, he remains the second-most expensive player to have been sold at the 2025 auction. It remains to be seen whether any of the other players manage to surpass the tag of INR 26.75 crore. Only time will tell whether there will be a more expensive player for IPL 2025 with the mega auction in full flow in Jeddah on November 24 and November 25, 2024.

Iyer was the second player to be secured at the spectacle after PBKS used their Right To Match card to bring back Arshdeep Singh for INR 18 crore. Iyer is all set to bring about a certain stature of stability when it comes to the middle-order, owing to him being a quality player of spin.

If ordinary batsman like Shreyas Iyer got 26.75 cr just because of winning 1 IPL trophy.

Then just imagine how many would greatest T20 batsman and 5 times IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma get in auction !?? 🤯🤯 pic.twitter.com/UqEdPWELK9
