Twitter Reactions: Rohit Sharma’s sublime fifty propels India to fighting total against England

India took on England in the semifinal 2 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27. England won the toss and opted to field first. India were off to a shaky start as Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant departed scoring nine and four runs respectively. Rohit Sharma continued his sublime touch as Suryakumar Yadav started rebuilding the innings.

The duo put up a much-needed stand of 73 runs for the third wicket before Rohit was cleaned up by Adil Rashid on 57 off 39. The India captain registered his first fifty as an Indian captain for India in the knockouts of the T20 World Cups. SKY continued the onslaught as Hardik Pandya kept the tempo in check. Suryakumar departed after scoring 47 off 36 and Pandya started oozing the temperature with timely maximums. The all-rounder walked back after 23 off 13 and India were close to the par score.

India aim to capitalize on a tad low Providence deck  

Shivam Dube continued his struggle with the bat as nicked one to the wicket-keeper on the first ball he faced. The onus fell on the two lefty all-rounders of India, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Both of them added 24 runs and India hit the 170-run mark. While Axar scored 10 off six balls, Jadeja remained unbeaten on 17 off nine and India posted an above-par total of 171 on a pitch that kept low and displayed hints of turn.

“Just to try and keep things simple (on what was said by Buttler to him), bowl into the wicket, keep it straight and make them hit to the longer boundary. The pitch is staying low and slow, we knew that, let’s see how it does in the second innings, hopefully we’ll chase it down, have a lot of firepower in that dressing room, I hope we’ll go past the line,” said Livingstone after the first innings.
