The West Indies finished the three-match T20I series on a dominant note as they won the rain-curtailed third T20I by eight wickets (via DLS method) on Wednesday, August 28, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. This helped the Caribbean side register a 3-0 clean sweep over the Proteas.

Stand-in captain Roston Chase won the toss and opted to field first to allow his bowlers to make good use of the moisture that was present on the pitch early on. Akeal Hosein bowled three excellent overs with the new ball, picking up the wicket of Reeza Hendricks and conceding just 11 runs in the process. In the middle of the fifth over, rain halted play for more than an hour. The match was eventually reduced to 13 overs per side.

After the resumption, in a very rare occasion, the last over of powerplay, where teams look to accumulate as many runs as possible, Chase introduced himself into the attack and bowled a maiden to Ryan Rickelton, who also survived a dropped chance.

The Proteas had only managed 23/1 in the first six overs. This was before Rickelton and South African captain Aiden Markram started to take the attack to the West Indies bowlers. The next three overs yielded 38 runs as the momentum started shifting slowly.

However, the home side bounced back as Romario Shepherd dismissed the two set batters in the 10th over. Tristan Stubbs played a blinder of an innings, amassing 40 runs off 15 balls, courtesy of five fours and three sixes to take the tourists to 108/4 in their 13 overs.

Shai Hope continues rich vein of form as West Indies romp home

The revised target for the West Indies was 116. They didn’t get off to an ideal start as Bjorn Fortuin dismissed Alick Athanaze in the first over itself. However, Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran joined forces to add 58 runs off just 20 balls. The southpaw was dismissed for a 13-ball 35 before Shimron Hetmyer joined Hope in the middle.

Th experienced duo added 56 runs off 33 balls to take their team to victory with 22 balls to spare. Hope remained unbeaten on 42 off 24 balls, while Hetmyer scored 31 not out off 17 deliveries to orchestrate an eight-wicket win.
