With Day 1 of the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh being washed away, it was Bangladesh who took the honours on Day 2 of the game.
Trailing Pakistan by 264 runs while resuming proceedings on Day 3 in Rawalpindi, the visitors would have expected to carry on the good work with the bat going forward. However, the tide turned for the worse as a top-order breakdown unfolded shortly thereafter.
The first man to depart was Zakir Hasan who was dismissed for a shaky 1 off 16 deliveries. The eighth over of the innings, Khurram Shahzad’s fourth, turned to be absolutely catastrophical for Bangladesh. It saw Shadnam Islam and skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, get their timber disturbed to leave the visitors in all sorts of disarray.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan departing within the space of six deliveries saw Bangladesh register their joint-worst score at six wickets down in Tests. At one stage, Bangladesh’s situation looked really grim with Pakistan seeming increasingly likely to dismiss the lower middle-order and tail shortly.

However, that was when wicketkeeper-batter, Litton Das, and icon of the first innings, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, came in clutch and resurrected their innings with a neatly-stitched stand taking minimal risks.
Both the batters batted at a similar rate, and they looked assured as ever as they looked to capitalize on any loose deliveries which were presented to them. The 50th over of the innings saw absolute carnage from the willow of the two batters, as they took on Khurram for 18 in the over. The right-arm medium fast bowler had the last laugh though, as Mehidy became Khurram’s fifth victim to grant him his first five-wicket haul in the red-ball format.
With the tailenders at the crease, Litton adopted a slightly more aggressive approach and targeted the likes of Abrar Ahmed in particular. With Hasan Mahmud guarding his end, it was Litton who took the lead in a bid to minimize the deficit.

The innings came to a tame end after Litton valiantly departed trying to clear the long-on fence, with Salman Agha getting his second of the innings a couple of deliveries later when he trapped Nahid Rana in front.
With the hosts holding on to a 12-run lead, them getting the visitors bowled out meant a short burst of new-ball bowling to face before the close of play. Abdullah Shafique was dismissed for yet another cheap score, his third in the series after a loose shot found the outside edge of the bat which was comfortably caught behind. Soon after, nightwatchman Khurram saw his stumps disturbed which led to the umpires to call it a day with Pakistan’s second innings score reading 9/2 after 3.4 overs.
Here’s how X reacted to Day 3 of the game
The two best cricketers from Bangladesh at the moment, @Officialmiraz and @LittonOfficial have given their team a great chance of winning a series. Have often said Litton is the best white ball batter in Bangladesh but I hope this test century expands his ambition.

Ironically, pakistan best shot is to get bowled out quickly and then capitalise on a Bangladesh collapse to win a low scoring thriller before weather has a say.
