On Day 2 of the ongoing third Test between New Zealand and England, New Zealand bowlers wreaked havoc against the England batters as they restricted them to just 143 runs. The top three batters, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell departed scoring 21, 11 and 12 respectively. Joe Root showed some resilience with his 32-run knock while the in-form Harry Brook was dismissed for a duck.
Wicketkeeper-batter, Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes tried to forge a partnership in the middle and walked back after scoring 24 and 27 runs, respectively. Amidst these little cameos, the tailenders succumbed in front of New Zealand’s combined attack of spin and pace. For the Blackcaps, pacer Matt Henry picked four wickets, whereas, William O’Rourke and all rounder Mitchell Santner picked three wickets each.
With a hefty lead of 203 runs, New Zealand openers walked in with an attacking mindset. Tom Latham departed early scoring 19 runs. Will Young scored 60 runs in 85 balls laced with nine boundaries. William O’Rourke was sent as a night watchman. However, he got dismissed for a duck. Later, the veteran Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra started building innings again.
At Stumps on Day 2, New Zealand were 136/3 with a hefty lead of 340 runs. The duo of Williamson and Rachin are unbeaten on 50* and two runs, respectively. For England, Captain Ben Stokes picked two wickets while Gus Atkinson claimed one wicket.
