Twitter Reactions: Mitchell Starc floors India with six-for on first day of pink-ball Test

Mitchell Starc‘s bowling masterclass against India in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was a testament to the proverb “slumps pass but excellence lasts“. He registered a career-best 6/48 in Adelaide to blow away the opposition.

The veteran looked on the money right since from the get go and the channels he bowled in seemed impossible to counter. On the very first delivery of the contest, the left-armer had youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal dismissed lbw as he rapped him on the pads with a fuller ball that swung late. However, he could not find the same success in the remainder of his initial burst. Having been creamed for five boundaries since taking Jaiswal’s wicket, Starc was taken out of the attack.

However, a fierce competitor like Starc could not have been ruled out. He returned to bowl and  had KL Rahul and Virat Kohli snagged in almost similar fashion in the first two overs after getting back in the thick of the action. Both the batters intended to leave the delivery at the last moment, only for the ball to take the edge before going to fielders in the slip cordon.

After the session break, Starc dismissed R Ashwin lbw in the very first over his new spell. The towering menace did not take time in bagging his fifth as he got rid of his former Kolkata Knight Riders’ teammate, Harshit Rana. Harshit was on the backfoot after a bumper on the previous delivery. On the wicket ball, he offered a wide gap between bat and pad, which Starc’s inswinging yorker snuck in to peg the off-stump back.

The final nail in India’s coffin was also hammered by Starc as he ended the visitors’ innings with Nitish Kumar Reddy wicket. Reddy perished while wanting to go for a big hit but miscued a shot to mid-off where Travis Head pouched an easy catch. Starc seemed back to his best as he lifted the ball up towards a raucous crowd who gave him a fitting sendoff as Australia made their way to the dugout after dismantling India for a mere 180 in 44.1 overs.
