Twitter Reactions: Miraz, Jaker Ali help Bangladesh take lead after another subpar batting performance on Day 3

Day 3 of the ongoing first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa was unable to be completed to fruition. Day 2 of the clash ended with Bangladesh batting in the second innings on a score of 101 runs, having lost three wickets in the process.

It is worth noting that after getting bundled out for a score of 106 runs in the first innings, Bangladesh conceded 308 runs against South Africa in their first innings. With the target of minimising their deficit, the weather did not play to Bangladesh’s advantage on Day 3.

The day began with Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim on the crease. However, Hasan Joy was unable to make a big impact and departed on a score of 40 runs in 92 deliveries. On the other hand, Mushfiqur Rahim scored 33 runs in 39 deliveries before he was sent back to the pavilion.

Furthermore, Litton Das was unable to make an impact on the game, departing for just seven runs. With the innings looking in a precarious position for the hosts, it was the lower order that stabilised the innings.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz stayed unbeaten throughout the day, scoring 87 runs in 171 deliveries. Furthermore, Jaker Ali added 58 runs on the board, with Nayeem Hasan ending the day unbeaten on a score of 16.

As Bangladesh looked to maintain control, bad light forced the day to an abrupt stop and early stumps. Bangladesh ended Day 3 on a score of 283 runs, having lost seven wickets in the process. Leading by 81 runs, the hosts will hope to put some more runs on the board and deliver a good performance with the ball if they are looking to take something out of the game against the Proteas.

With a cyclone approaching the West Coast, it was crucial for South Africa to bowl Bangladesh out as early as possible today and secure the win. Now, with Bangladesh leading by 50+, the rain has started. South Africa has likely squandered an easy victory here. #BANvSA

Another fine session for South Africa, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Jaker Ali’s unbeaten 89-run partnership kept Bangladesh in the game. pic.twitter.com/cW2gzx5nR4
