The West Indies and Bangladesh kicked off their two-game Test series at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on November 22. The clash began with the West Indies coming in to bat first after losing the toss.

The side opened their innings with Kraigg Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis. Skipper Brathwaite failed to go big as he opened the innings after he departed for just four runs. However, Louis was exceptional for the hosts as he managed to amass 97 runs in 218 deliveries in a composed knock and stabilised the innings after the skipper’s dismissal.

While Keacy Carty departed for a duck, Kavem Hodge added 25 runs on the board. The Windies looked to be in trouble after Carty and Hodge’s dismissals but Alick Athanaze’s marvellous 90 off 130 helped the Windies’ cause.

As Day 1 of the first Test came to a close, Justin Greaves and Joshua Da Silva found themselves unbeaten on 11 and 14 runs, respectively with West Indies going back 250/5.

As for Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed was the highest wicket-taker with two wickets to his name. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket as well. As day 2 approaches, Bangladesh will hope for an improved bowling performance and will look to dismiss the remaining Windies batters as soon as possible.

Here’s how X reacted to day 1 of the first WI vs BAN Test:

Alick Athanaze falls for 90, once again missing out on a century. He’ll be furious with himself after a solid knock and having the milestone in sight. 💔#WIvBAN #BCB #Cricket #WTC25 #Bangladesh #WIHomeforChristmas pic.twitter.com/bejsYE8K0F

24-year-old Mikyle Louis (97) falls agonizingly short of what would have been a well-deserved century. 💔#WIvBAN #BCB #Cricket #WTC25 #Bangladesh #WIHomeforChristmas pic.twitter.com/yEfM6M89Fx
