England returned to winning ways as they sealed a series win against Bangladesh with a big 132-run triumph in the second ODI on Friday (March 3). They won the opening ODI by three wickets but had to put in the extra effort while chasing 209 runs. But England produced their best in the latest game to register a series win after disappointing results against South Africa and Australia in the previous ODI outings.

Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal won the toss and elected to bowl with no changes to the team’s playing XI, while England brought in Sam Curran and Saqib Mahmood in place of Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer. Shakib Al Hasan picked up the early wicket of Phil Salt to give the hosts a good start but Jason Roy faced Bangladesh’s bowlers brilliantly to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Roy and Dawid Malan, previous game’s hero, put in a 58-run stand for the second wicket to keep England on track for a big total. Roy smashed his 12th ODI century, also his second in his last five innings, and captain Jos Buttler contributed with a 76 off 64-ball 76 to put up a total of 326/7. Taskin Ahmed took three wickets while Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed two for the hosts.

Sam Curran ensures an early win for England:

Sam Curran gave England a perfect start while defending a big total to ensure an early win. The pace all-rounder took two valuable wickets of Litton Das and Najmul Shanto in the innings’ first over and then dismissed Mushifiqur Rahim on just four runs in his next over to keep England in a comfortable position.

Shakib Al Hasan scored fifty and kept Bangladesh’s hopes alive in the chase with a 79-run stand for the fourth wicket with Tamim Iqbal. Adil Rashid dismissed Shakib in the 28th over with just 122 runs on the scoreboard and took three more wickets to keep the hosts under pressure.

Curran bagged his fourth wicket to dismiss Mustafizur Rahman in the 45th over to dish out Bangladesh on just 194. Curran and Rashid claimed four wickets each to record a dominating 132-run win for England. A defeat resulted in a first-ever ODI series loss for Bangladesh at home since 2016.

12th ODI hundred for Jason Roy, A fantastic knock in Bangladesh. He was having tough times but the team backed him and he has delivered in the World Cup year.

For most of last summer, all of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran and Saqib Mahmood were all injured. They’re all now back bowling for England and that is very good gear.
