India women took on South Africa women in the third ODI at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 23. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits provided the team with a fiery start as the openers put up a 102-run stand for the first wicket. While Wolvaardt scored 61 runs, Brits got run out on 38 runs. India made a comeback by picking Marizanne Kapp and Anneke Bosck within a span of six runs.
Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma cleaned up Sune Luus and Nadine de Klerk for 13 and 26 runs respectively. Nondumiso Shangase fell for a perfectly orchestrated runout by Deepti and Richa Ghosh. Mieke de Ridder remained unbeaten on 26 runs and South Africa put up a subpar total of 215 runs on the board. Deepti and Arundhati Reddy picked two wickets apiece for India.
India whitewash South Africa to clinch ODI series
While chasing, Shafali Verma departed after scoring 25 runs and Priya Puniya contributed 28 runs. Smriti Mandhana remained steadfast at the other end as Harmanpreet Kaur entered the fray. The duo put up a 48-run stand for the third wicket before Mandhana departed scoring 90 runs. Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues started building the innings again but Kaur was subjected to an unfortunate run-out at the other end. But Jemimah and Richa made sure there were no further hiccups and India won the game by six wickets and 56 balls to spare.
“I’ve never been great at taking caught and bowleds, but I was lucky to have a couple stick today. They had a good opening partnership, we needed a wicket at that point. We just needed to stick to the plans we had made at our meetings. Today’s wicket was a bit slower. You had to adjust and use a lot of slower ones and stick to bowling consistently. This was a small adjustment that I had to make today,” said Arundhati after the game.
