New Zealand claimed victory over Pakistan by five wickets and 23 deliveries to spare in Match 6 of the ongoing Champions Trophy at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday, February 24.
The first 10 overs of the powerplay belonged to Bangladesh, which they ended up with 58 for the loss of one wicket. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shantoscored at a decent clip after promoting himself to the top of the order but three middle-order wickets in the span of seven overs left Bangladesh reeling.
Shanto eventually ended up top-scoring with 77, his 10th half-century in the format, while Jaker Ali chipped in with a handy knock of 45-run knock. He was dismissed on the penultimate over of the innings. Michael Bracewell ended up with career-best ODI figures of 4/26 as Bangladesh ended with 236 on the board. They lost nine wickets in getting to the total.
Coming to the run-chase, New Zealand were off to a harrowing start with Will Young and Kane Williamson getting dismissed within the first few overs. However, it was all about the duo of Rachin Ravindra and Tom Latham from there as they registered a match-defining stand of 129 to set up a comfortable platform.
As for Bangladesh, it was a similar story with the ball. Much like their clash against India, none of the bowlers stepped up to deliver an impactful performance. Taskin Ahmed ended up as the most-economical bowler, ending up with 1/28 in the seven overs he bowled. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain struggled with maintaining consistency.
