Bangladesh’s bowling unit stepped up once again, resulting in a massive 101-run win over West Indies away from home. After a historic series win against Pakistan earlier in the year, the Bangla Tigers suffered back-to-back series defeats to India and South Africa. They were under immense pressure, and it only increased when captain Najmul Hossain Shanto wanted to step down as the leader.
In his absence due to a groin injury, Mehidy Hasan Miraz handled the responsibility and did a commendable job as Bangladesh sealed the two-match series 1-0. The credit goes to the bowling unit, which was extremely effective at Sabina Park in Jamaica. The visitors were bundled for 164 runs in the first innings after Jayden Seales picked up a five-wicket haul. West Indies started well with the bat, but Nahid Rana wreaked havoc, restricting the hosts to 146 runs.
Bangladesh managed an 18-run lead in the first innings and batted well in the second. Shadman Islam gave a good start, scoring 46 while captain Miraz made 42. Later, Jaker Ali played a vital role and scored 91 runs, which took West Indies out of the race. His innings turned out to be the point of difference, as the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side couldn’t script a comeback.
In the final innings, Brathwaite once again managed to give West Indies a good start but he barely had support from the other end. Batting at four, Kavem Hodge looked solid but couldn’t prolong his innings, as he departed for 55 runs. The hosts needed someone to step up like Jaker did for Bangladesh but the middle order collapsed in no time, resulting in a defeat.
Taijul Islam was the star with the ball, picking up a five-wicket haul. Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed picked up two each while Nahid notched one. Taijul meanwhile was adjudged Player of the Match for picking up six wickets in the match and scoring 30 runs. Taskin and Seales were jointly adjudged Players of the Series.

Bangladesh has defeated West Indies by 101 runs. This is their 21st win in Test Cricket, 4th against the WI and 3rd this year overall.
This is also the FIRST TIME ever that they have won three test matches outside of their home in a calendar year.#WIvBAN
