After blowing away the T20 World Champions in the first T20I in Chattogram, Bangladesh locked horns with England in the second game at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, March 12. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan once again won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Bangladesh bowlers were all over England right from the word go as Taskin Ahmed dismissed Dawid Malan cheaply in the third over of the innings. However, Philip Salt took on the bowlers from the other end as England finished the powerplay on 50/1.
Seeing the opposition batters running away with the game, captain Shakib brought himself into the attack and got the prized scalp of Salt dismissing him on 25 off 19. Following his dismissal, England further lost two more wickets in the next three overs as Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali returned to the pavilion cheaply.
With England on 57/4 after nine overs, Ben Duckett and Sam Curran tried to stabilise the innings, however, they couldn’t extend their partnership beyond 34 as Mehidy Hasan got rid of Curran. His wicket sparked another collapse for the Three Lions as they got bundled out for 117.
Mehidy Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh picking up 4/12 in four overs.
Najmal Hossain Shanto guided Bangladesh to a four-wicket win
In reply, Bangladesh lost both their openers inside the powerplay as Sam Curran and Jofra Archer picked one wicket each. Najmul Hossain Shanto walked in to bat at number three and held one end with other batters batting around him. He got involved in two crucial stands, the first being with Towhid Hridoy of 29 off 31 balls while the second one was with Mehidy Hasan of 41 off 32 balls.
Shanto remained unbeaten on 46 off 47 balls as Bangladesh won the second T20I by four wickets and seven balls to spare. Jofra Archer was the most successful bowler from England who picked up 3/13 in 4 overs. As a result, Bangladesh sealed the three-match T20I series by 2-0 with one game left.
