USA vs BAN. (Source -Twitter/X)
After losing back-to-back matches against the United States of America, Bangladesh were brutally criticised by former cricketers and fans alike. In the third T20I of the series, they made a comeback as the Bangla Tigers looked determined to put up a show. Even though the win didn’t matter much as the series was already sealed, it should give them some confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Their start however was not any good as USA openers Andries Gous looked in good touch. He made 27 runs off 15 balls and even since he got out, things changed for the hosts. They lost wickets like a house of cards as Mustafizur Rahman looked phenomenal with the ball. Batting at number five, former New Zealand international Corey Anderson spent three overs in the middle to regain control but he could score only 18 runs. Other batters failed to deliver as they were bundled for 104 runs.
Notably, Rahman picked up six wickets, giving away just 10 runs in his four overs. He was in terrific form in the Indian Premier League 2024 and looks like, he has finally understood the conditions and bowled accordingly. Meanwhile, Tanzim Shakib, Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain picked up one wicket each.
When it came to the chase, Bangladesh openers gave no chance to the USA. Both Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar looked fluent with the bat and chased the total down in just 11.4 overs. Hasan smashed 58* runs off 42 balls, while Sarkar hit 43* runs off 28 deliveries. The opening combination finally worked for the team as they picked up a massive 10-wicket win.
Despite the win, there are a lot of things that the team needs to address. Losing the first two matches of the series against an associate nation isn’t a positive sign, especially ahead of the T20 World Cup. However, one plus point is that the players have finally understood the nature of the surfaces and should plan accordingly.
