In short ball, the weakness of the Bangladesh team’s batsmen is a very old problem. It is said that the type of pitch that the Tigers practice in the country is different from the foreign soil. So, the Bangladeshi batsmen become out not being able to adapt to the bouncy wicket. It has been discussed and criticized at various times.
Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium is next to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Academy ground. The concrete pitch is being made there. Since then, the question has been circulating in the country’s cricket, are the national team cricketers preparing themselves on this pitch for the tri-nation series in New Zealand and the upcoming T20 World Cup?
During the 70s and 80s, cricketers used to practice on concrete pitches all over Bangladesh. Even all the clubs in Dhaka had this pitch. Cricket Operations Manager Shahriar Nafees said about bringing the concrete pitch back to the BCB Academy, there was a proposal from the team management to build 2-3 concrete pitches. BCB is making this wicket according to that demand.
Nafees claims, this is the place that the ball will skid and bounce. Both batsmen and bowlers will benefit. Later, Nafees also informed him about making two Astro pitches. However, former Bangladesh pacer Hasibul Hossain does not agree with Nafees. According to him, pacers have no advantage on concrete pitches. Rather, for pacers to improve, practice on hard grass pitches is essential.
This year’s T20 World Cup will begin on October 16. Team Bangladesh will try to turn around after the failure of the Asia Cup. The camp is going to start on the 12th. Under the supervision of Sridharan Sriram, this camp is going to be arranged as the preparation for the T20 World Cup.
