The second edition of LPL to roll on the field on December 4

The 2nd edition of the Lankan Premier League (LPL), Sri Lanka’s franchise-based T20 tournament, will starts from December 4 until 23. The announcement has been made by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Thursday. The final of the tournament will be taken place on December 23, and the process of registration of foreign players will start on September 24.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place between July 30 and August 22. But with the announcement of the Kashmir Premier League, the CPL, The Hundred, and the possibility of the Sri Lankan cricket team playing an international series with Bangladesh, the organizers were forced to reconsider the timing of the tournament.

Meanwhile, last year’s champion Jaffna Stallions is also in doubt about participating in the tournament. Know Your Client (KYC) has to be submitted by the franchises to the ICC before participating in the tournament but the organizers claim that the owners of the Stallions have not yet provided any details of the KYC.

Moreover, the Stallions did not open up anything with the organizers about the payment for participating in the tournament. On the other hand, Stallions stated that they are unwilling about the payment now due to uncertainty about when the second edition will start.

The LPL franchise is facing a lot of problems before it takes place. Among the five franchises that took part in the last edition, two franchises have been officially dropped from the second edition by the organizers. The two franchises are Dambulla Vikings and Colombo Kings. However, it is learned that there will be five teams in the second edition of the LPL even if two teams are eliminated.

The second edition of LPL will start soon. For further updates on it, stay on Baji!
