The Everest Premier League (EPL), a franchise-based T20 tournament in Nepal, will take place from September 25 to October 9. Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh’s best opener, has applied for No-Objection certificate (NOC) to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to take part in the tournament.
The left-arm star batsman is currently in the process of rehabilitation from a knee injury but he will recover before the start of EPL. In the meantime, he has withdrawn his name from the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
Akram Khan, the BCB cricket operation chairman confirmed Tamim’s application. He told the media that Tamim had written to them seeking permission from the board to participate in the EPL. About the reply to that, he stated that they would decide on Wednesday whether to give the permission or not.
However, it is understood that the BCB is keen to give Tamim a no-objection letter to play in the EPL for his return to competitive cricket. So it is safe to say that he is going to play in the EPL.
Tamim is scheduled to play for Bhairahawa Gladiators in the EPL. He might leave the country on September 24 to take part in the tournament. Chris Gayle, Mohammad Shahzad, Sandeep Lamichhane, and other well-known faces of world cricket will also feature in the EPL.
Initially, the EPL was scheduled to start on March 14 this year but due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation, it has been delayed for about 6 and a half months. The matches of this tournament will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket ground in Kirtipur, Nepal.
