128 years of waiting may be over. The IOC has allowed the ICC to bring cricket back to the 2028 Summer Olympics. The ICC will explain to the Los Angeles Olympic Committee the requirements and plans for cricket in the tournament.
Apart from cricket, there are 8 other disciplines in the race. The final decision will come in the middle of next year. Cricket is not only a game of bat and ball; for many, cricket is like an emotion, spreading unconditional love.
More than 200 million people around the world regularly experience that thrill. But in the Olympics, known as The Greatest Show on Earth, this discipline does not exist. Even though it has come a long way, this game is still not well known in the world.
However, ICC officials are working tirelessly to bring cricket back to the Olympics. The results may be available soon, and cricket can be seen again after 1900 at 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. And if that happens, Bangladesh can end the medal drought elusive in the Olympics.
The IOC and the Los Angeles Olympic Organising Committee will hold a special meeting in Mumbai in the middle of next year. Where the ICC has been allowed to make a special presentation, and world cricket regulators will explain their plans for the tournament.
But not only cricket but there are also 8 other disciplines in the race. Break dancing, baseball, flag football, lacrosse, karate, kickboxing, squash and moto sports federations will also present their plans.
But it is not sure how many of these 9 disciplines the IOC will choose in the end, and it is heard that the number can be maximum 4 from here. In that case, cricket may compete with well-known karate, kickboxing, and squash events.
For this, the ICC authorities have already formulated an outline. The game will be played in T20 format, with a maximum of 12 teams, and the tournament will take 15 days.
The authorities have already finalised 28 disciplines for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Cricket was included only once in the 1900 Paris Olympics, and Great Britain won gold in the two-team event.
