The Afghan spin magician Rashid Khan tops the list of frugal bowlers of IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 9 wickets in the 14th match of Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL). Afghan star Rashid Khan also bowled brilliantly in that match. He picked up the wicket of Chris Gayle, giving away just 17 runs in 4 overs and this is his most economical bowling figure in this edition of IPL so far. He also took 1 wicket conceding 31 runs in 4 overs in the 20th match. Throughout his IPL career, Rashid Khan has been bowling economically.

IPL means rain of boundaries. Batsmen become much more aggressive here with batting-friendly pitches, small boundary opportunities and shows their stormy batting. And the bowlers get helpless with these. The spectators who come to the field also want to see a flood of runs. However, there are some bowlers like Rashid Khan who have played or are playing in the IPL, against whom it is very difficult to score runs.

Reviewing the list of economical bowlers in IPL history, it is seen that 9 out of the top 10 economical bowlers are spinners. Afghanistan cricket poster boy Rashid Khan tops that list. Rashid’s bowling economy is only 6.19 in 67 matches. He has taken 6 wickets conceding 112 runs in 5 matches that he played in this edition of IPL.

India’s off-spinner Jayant Yadav comes up second in the list. Although he did not play as many matches as Rashid. However, his economy is 6.42 playing only 16 IPL matches. In this year’s IPL 2021, he has taken 1 wicket giving away 45 runs playing in two matches for Mumbai Indians.

Legendary Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble is third on the list with an economy of 6.56. Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath and legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan are in 4th and 6th position respectively. Mohammad Nabi, another Afghan spinner at number five, but he has not played as many matches (15). Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is at number 46 in this list. However, Shakib has played one match less than Rashid (66) and his economy rate is 7.49
