Super Smash Match Highlights: Wellington lift the trophy consecutive two times as they beat Canterbury in the final

An exciting match between Wellington and Canterbury took place on February 13 (Saturday) which was the final match of the Super Smash 2020-21 and was held at the Basin Reserve (Wellington). Wellington had a great five-wicket win over their opponent Canterbury.

Wellington captain Michael Bracewell decided to field after winning the toss and sent Canterbury to bat.

Canterbury lost only one wicket in the first seven overs and picked up 71 runs batting first. Logan Van Beek took the first wicket for Wellington. He later took two more wickets. Despite picking up wickets, he couldn’t stop the Canterbury batsmen from rotating the wheel of runs. The top-order batsmen got runs for them, but the middle-order batsmen failed. But in the end, thanks to a stormy inning of 29 runs off 15 balls by Henry Shipley, Canterbury lost eight wickets in 20 overs and managed to score a challenging 175 runs on the board. Captain Cole McConchie (44) scored the best for Canterbury. Logan van Beek was the highest wicket-taker for Wellington (3-28, 4 overs).

Coming down to bat for a big target of 176 runs, Wellington lost two wickets in six overs of the power play and scored 61 runs. Opener Devon Conway stuck on one side of the wicket, even though the wickets were falling from the other side. He remained unbeaten playing a devastating inning of 93 runs off 63 balls hitting 11 fours and 1 six. With two balls to spare, Wellington reached the port of victory. Where Devon Conway (93 *) and Troy Johnson (26) scored well for the team. Canterbury’s highest wicket-taker was Ed Nuttall (2-32, 4 overs).

Wellington is now the winner of the Super Smash 2020-21 after winning this match. With this, they became the champions for the second consecutive time in the Super Smash League. However, Wellington has won the Super Smash League four times so far. Two of them are recent times. The other two were in 2014-15 and 2016-17 respectively.
