The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recently appointed former Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum as the head coach of the Test team. The English Test series is about to start in Lord’s against New Zealand. Stuart Broad, who has been out of the national team for several days, has been included in the Test squad announced for that purpose. However, Ben Stokes, the new England captain in the Tests, said in a statement that he would like Broad and Anderson in the squad. He also kept that word.
Broad has spoken to McCullum only twice since he joined as a coach. One of the discussions was based on cricket but the other was completely different. The pacer has asked the new coach for leave to watch the football match. Broad is a big fan of Nottingham Forest in football. The team is on the verge of playing in the Premier League for the first time since 1999. The team will play in the Premier League only if they secure a victory over Huddersfield Town in the final on 29 May.
So Broad could not resist the urge to watch that match. Regarding his conversation with McCallum, Broad said: ” I talked to him (McCallum) once more after the appointment. I called to ask permission to go to Nottingham Forest to watch the final at Wembley. (Because) we were supposed to check in at the hotel that day. ”
Cricketers have a problem adapting to coaches or new management. Broad wants to know the thoughts of the team management about himself even though he is looking forward to playing in the upcoming series. “After being called up for the first Test of the summer, I am really looking forward to playing next week,” said Broad. ”The only time I’ve talked to Brendan about cricket so far is not too long. But I am positive about future. At some point I have to sit with Ben, Brendan, or the new selector. Have a clear idea of what they want from me, what I want from them. It could be for seven Tests, five Tests, four Tests, or even one Test. Whatever it is, I’ll be ready, I’ll be prepared. ”
