The target for Bangladesh was 274 runs to win the first Test against hosts South Africa in Durban. However, they lost 3 wickets to score only 11 runs on the fourth day. At the beginning of the fifth day, Bangladesh’s innings collapsed like a house of cards, and they were restricted to 53 runs. As a result, Bangladesh got a taste of a shameful loss of 220 runs.

Proteas spinners Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer did not let Bangladeshi batsmen stay on the wicket for an hour. Maharaj took 7 wickets for 32 and Harmer took 3 wickets for 21 runs.

In the fifth ball of the first over of the day, Maharaj trapped Mushfiqur Rahim in lbw. Mushfiqur could not start scoring even though he played five balls, and he could not survive despite going for a review. Liton Das also fell victim to Maharaj soon after coming down to bat by scoring only 2 runs. Then Maharaj bowled Yasir Ali (5) and completed his 5-wickets haul. Harmer sent off Mehidy Hasan for 33 runs.
