Time is now for T20 cricket. Due to this format, many feel that Tests and ODIs are losing appeal and glory. However, according to the demand of the time, the promotion of T20 is increasing. The new T20 league will start in South Africa for the first time.
The franchise-based tournament has been named ‘SA-20’. The tournament commissioner Graeme Smith confirmed the matter. Smith also said that the league’s player auction will be held on September 19.
Meanwhile, the authorities have not decided the final schedule of the tournament so far. However, it has been informed that this league will be held in January-February next year. The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners buy the South African league teams. Each team has also already bought 2-3 players.
According to the tournament rules, a team can take a maximum of 17 players while forming the team. Out of this there will be 7 foreign cricketers. The remaining 10 cricketers will be chosen from South Africa. In addition, there is a limit of USD 2 million to spend on team building, player acquisitions.
Meanwhile, South Africa T20, Australia’s Big Bash, United Arab Emirates International T20 and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be held around the same time. The world’s biggest stars are rushing to the Emirates league hoping for more money.
With Graeme Smith in charge of the league, many are hopeful of success. Only time will tell how successful South Africa’s T20 League will be in the end.
