Sourav does not want to compare BPL with IPL

IPL has survived with great popularity since its inauguration. Compared to that, BPL gained popularity in the beginning, but it seems to be losing its popularity day by day. The franchise league of Bangladesh is facing questions due to various reasons. However, this BPL can play an effective role in the development of cricket in Bangladesh. This is what former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said.

In a recent press conference, Sourav said, “I think there will be both franchise cricket and international cricket. Because there is no pride like playing for the country. When the career is over, it will remain who has played for Bangladesh, India, Australia or England. Playing for the country is a great pride. You won’t get it anywhere else. But there will be franchise cricket as well.”

He also explained the reason for franchise cricket. According to Sourav, “BPL has given opportunities to many cricketers. Because not everyone gets a chance to play for the country. It looks like 15-16 cricketers can play for the country. But there are many more talents who can play in this franchise cricket. They get exposure. And those cricketers earn by playing all over the world. That’s why there is a need for international cricket as well as franchise cricket.”

According to Sourav, franchise cricket also improves the quality of cricketers. He said, “Franchise cricket can improve the level of cricketers. Because there is an opportunity to play with different players from the country and abroad. Where earlier there was no opportunity to play with outside players except international cricket, now in this franchise cricket there is that opportunity. There is a lot of exposure, a lot of improvement. Mixing with big players is possible through this.”

But Sourav does not want to compare BPL with IPL. According to him, these are different places. He said, “IPL is a completely different thing. Availability of international cricketers is more in IPL. Finals is also very extensive. IPL is the biggest league in the world after NFL. So, from here you can really understand what IPL is! And so, I don’t want to compare. I want to say that BPL is also better. And much more can be done from BPL.”

It is to be noted that Sourav came to Dhaka for an event of an Indian bank. Before that, he also attended the opening ceremony of Dhaka North City Mayor’s Cup. This former captain of India talks a lot about Bangladesh cricket. Prince of Calcutta left Dhaka on February 24 after a two-day visit.
