Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates faced each other in Tuesday’s 6th match of the T20 World Cup. Batting first in the match, Sri Lanka set a good target. But chasing that target, the United Arab Emirates collapsed before the allotted 20 overs were over. As a result, they have to leave the field with a loss. Pathum Nissanka won the Man of the Match title for Sri Lanka with great batting.

The fans got all kinds of excitement in one match. Four-sixes by the batsmen on one side, hat-tricks by the bowlers on another side, and challenging scores – all happened.

After losing the toss to bat at Kardinia Park in Geelong, Sri Lanka set a target of 153 runs in front of the United Arab Emirates for chasing, relying on opener Pathum Nissanka’s stormy 74 runs. UAE leg break bowler Karthik Meiyappan also scored a hat-trick.

After losing the toss, two openers Nissanka and Kusal Mendis made a partnership of 42 runs. At that time, Kushal Mendis got out after scoring 18 runs. He also hit 2 fours. Pathum Nissanka made a 50-run partnership with Dhananjaya De Silva, who was come to bat on one down. 

Dhananjaya de Silva was run out after scoring 33 runs off 21 balls after the team scored 92 runs. His innings of 33 runs had 3 fours and 1 six. Leg spinner Karthik Meiyappan took a hat trick with three consecutive wickets in the last three balls of the 15th over of the innings. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the first to get out after scoring 5 runs off 8 balls. 

Charith Ashalanka (0) and Dasun Shanaka (0) then got out. The last ball was beyond the understanding of the Lankan captain. Couldn’t save even with bat and body. Got bold.

Wanindu Hasaranga was dismissed in the next over. He scored 2 runs from 3 balls. Chamika Karunaratne scored 8 runs off 11 balls. Pathum Nisanka, who scored the most runs for them, got out with 1 ball to spare. He scored 74 runs off 60 balls with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. In the last over Pramod Madhushan and Dusmantha Chameera remained unbeaten after scoring 1 run each. In the end, Sri Lanka collected 152 runs after losing 8 wickets.

Karthik Meiyappan took 3 wickets for UAE.  Zahoor Khan took 2 wickets. Ayan Afzal Khan and Aryan Lakra took 1 wicket each. 

Dasun Shanaka’s team bowled and diminished the UAE. Chasing 153 runs under the bowling of the Lankans, UAE was bowled out at 73 runs with 3 overs remaining. Along with that, Sri Lanka won by 79 runs.

With this victory, the hope of going to the Super Twelve of the T20 World Cup remained alive for the Lankans. But for them, they have to win against the Netherlands in the last match of the group stage and keep an eye on the run rate.

The Arab Emirates could not stand in front of the Lankan bowling from the start of the run chase in Geelong. Even after losing 4 wickets for 21 runs, the procession of falling wickets did not stop. In the end, Junaid Siddique played an innings of 18 runs off 16 balls and took the team to 73. Besides, Ayan Afzal Khan scored 19 off 21 balls.

One of the most successful Lankan bowlers is Wanindu Hasaranga. This spinner took 3 wickets with only 8 runs in 4 overs. Pacer Dushmantha Chameera took 3 wickets for 15 runs. Maheesh Theekshana took 2 wickets.
